Network audio interface
Meanwhile, the transmission of multichannel audio - for example, from the stage to the mixing desk at the back of the room or in the control room - has become much easier and more reliable by using Ethernet networks as a carrier. Many manufacturers use their own protocol, but there are a number of standards that more and more companies are adopting. One important one is Dante.
Besides Dante, there are several other standards, each of which has its own attractive features. You can think of MADI, Revenna, ADAT, AVB and AES67. Some protocols can transport video in addition to audio. There is still a lot of development so the last word has not yet been spoken.
Preferred
Megalight has a slight preference for Dante. If there is an existing network or if the specific application requires it, there is extensive expertise regarding the other network protocols. This preference comes from experience with a proven combination of, for example, Yamaha digital mixing consoles and Focusrite AD and DA converters from the Rednet series. The advantages of Dante are that the individual devices are particularly simple to control remotely.
Remote
From a Yamaha mixing console, for instance, you can adjust the settings of AD and DA converters and for amplifiers, even if they are located a long distance away. This can also be done using a laptop, which you can also use to configure such a Dante network. Dante also has many options regarding redundant networks, so a setup can always be devised that leaves nothing to chance.
