Pro AHD hoist control | SRS Rigging
Within the Pro category of hoist control, the devices offer considerably more functions. Often, for example, outputs can be grouped, remotes - wireless or otherwise - are available and safety features are more extensive.
Low Voltage and Direct Voltage
The vast majority of hoist controls come in Low Voltage and Direct Voltage versions. The former is a hoist controller that provides a control voltage + the power supply and the latter controls the hoist directly through supply voltage. Thus, the budget-friendly SRS Yellowbox comes in DV version and an LV version, while the highly advanced and comprehensive SRS 12-channel AHD is also available with Low Voltage and Direct Voltage.
Yellow and red connectors
Direct Voltage has some practical advantages. Control is simpler, by swapping two phases in the power supply the hoist changes direction, so you only need to connect one cable. This makes operation more practical, construction simpler and the whole thing cheaper as a result. Low Voltage, on the other hand, uses an extra cable/connector for the control and thus offers more functionality. In the case of Low Voltage control, the power cable has the familiar red CEE connector and the cable with the control signal has a yellow CEE connector.
