The Ikarray-12 is a new, two-way, bi-amping, fullrange line array with high-quality 12-inch/1.4-inch neodymium drivers. Its low weight, compactness and many intelligent solutions with for detail make it suitable for both small events and large amplification jobs with several thousand listeners.
Great emphasis has been placed on uniform dispersion and linear frequency response even beyond the central axis. In the horizontal plane, this is achieved through the use of a 12-inch speaker, which provides an omni-directional characteristic due to the single arrangement, and which does not cause a narrowing as with two speakers placed side by side (d'appolito effect).
Line array with rich sound
The optimal vertical coupling of the drivers is achieved by mounting them a short distance apart and by splitting the acoustic centres on different virtual sound sources: the 1.4-inch tweeter is coupled to a special double Twin-Waveformer, which divides the sound into 4 sections. In front of the 12-inch woofer is a newly developed v-shaped baffle, which divides the large diaphragm into two sections and moves the acoustic centre outwards. The dual Twin-Waveformer and this V-plug make it possible to minimise the distances between sound sources. The physical laws for forming a characteristic array-coherent wavefront are maintained even when using a 12-inch speaker in a two-way setup. Unlike many other arrays of this size, the Ikaray-12 has a warm and rich sound with powerful midrange, allowing a wide range. For many applications, it can therefore be used completely without an additional low-end unit.
Visual unity
At just 60.5 cm wide, the Ikarray-12 has the advantageous dimensions for truck loading and is the world's narrowest enclosure in the 12-inch/1.4-inch class. Its groundbreaking performance when mounted on the Paveosub-218, which has the same width, results in an elegant silhouette and visual unity.
Optimisation
The angle and alignment between the individual elements is done with an equally new, infinitely adjustable adjustment mechanism. This allows much finer alignment and optimisation with respect to room acoustics than would be possible with a conventional row of holes and pins. Another advantage is that the position can be adjusted under load. This eliminates the need to laboriously hoist the array down when changing the angle, making day-to-day use much simpler. Brackets with adjustable legs can be mounted on the stack board, for ground-based stacking without subs. For an attractive and unobtrusive look, the entire mechanism is recessed and installed in the enclosure with no protruding parts.
Fly
The Ikarray-12 also features the specially developed VA flying tracks for engaging with the subtle Easy-Fly mechanism, which is also used in the Modular series.
The sum of all the innovations and other thoughtful details make the Ikarray-12 a scalable, universal, compact but powerful sound reinforcement system.
Control
The Ikarray-12 is driven by bi-amping on two channels of the HDSP-6 amplifier. As a result, both signal paths can be separately limmited, optimally filtered and run-time differences compensated. The woofer and tweeter are 16Ω.
