Voice-Acoustic Paveosub-118: 18-inch passive subwoofer
The Paveosub-118 is a lightweight, highly vented bass-reflex subwoofer for universal applications in mobile use and fixed installations.
Equipped with a high-quality 18-inch neodymium chassis, it is capable of generating high and undistorted bass levels from the most compact dimensions. The low moving mass of only 160 grams mms together with a powerful drive (B/L factor 25) ensures fast and accurate signal reproduction with excellent fade-in and fade-out behaviour and is superior to many other 18-inch designs in terms of sound. The chassis has a large and highly resilient 4-inch voice coil, an advanced ventilation system and lower power compression than conventional bass drivers: the output stage power is used more effectively and efficiency is maintained even with permanent full modulation.
Construction
The generously sized bass reflex channels are housed in four corners and also provide good residual heat due to the resulting chimney effect. The tunnel cross-section corresponds to 500 cm², which is about 43% of the diaphragm area, resulting in less distortion and higher efficiency. Due to the large, open ports, there is no flow noise. The corner placement prevents the double-centred membrane from wobbling at high deflections, as the air escapes from all sides, creating an even back pressure. This type of tunnel construction reinforces the house walls again. Further internal struts provide stability and prevent unwanted resonances.
Rubber feet and stacking troughs guarantee a safe stand without slipping.
Two certified belt loops are recessed on the side for securing loads and for lashing into stacks.
An M20 spacer bar flange is integrated at the top.
Connections
In addition to the rear connection panel, there are two Speakon connectors in the loudspeaker grille. These are used for easy wiring at the front when the bass is under stage platforms or for wiring reverse bass in cardioid bass arrays. This means no cables are visible from the audience side. The assignment of the Speakon connectors on the front can be changed from the standard 2 +/- to 1 +/- on a circuit board behind the grille, so that cardioid bass arrays can be easily looped through with a 4-pole cable . The connection sockets in the grille and the loop-through socket at the rear are protected from moisture with rubber caps.
Amplifiers
The Paveosub-118 is operated on one channel (2,400 W / 4 Ω) of an HDSP amplifier. The woofer is designed in 8 .
The HDSP amplifiers include preset settings for combination with all Voice-Acoustic tops. Presets for cardioid and endfire bass arrays are also available.
Two paveo subs can be looped through and connected in parallel to one amplifier channel on one HDSP-6.
