With the LA-Stick 4x4, Voice-Acoustic has created an entirely new and revolutionary loudspeaker: the Line-Array Stick, or LA-Stick for short.

At first glance, the LA-Stick 4x4 looks like an ordinary column speaker, of which there are three types:

1- A column with a row of mid-drivers and a wave guide for the high at the top or middle. This type of speaker finds only standalone applications. They cannot be variably scaled because effective coupling in the high-frequency region is not possible when adding speakers. They are single sound sources.

2- Then there are column loudspeakers with a continuous row of wideband or midrange drivers. These columns can be interconnected, but they cannot be directional. With each additional unit, the pitch inevitably narrows. To increase the directional characteristic in the listening area, multiple cabinets are offered configured in straight and curved shapes. This results in a relatively large number of required loudspeaker types, which reduces flexibility and complicates storage.

3- Another approach is the so-called DSP beam control. The loudspeakers are driven in line from top to bottom. Each transducer in the column has its own amplifier channel and DSP controller. An electrical phase and time delay, as well as an algorithm compiler, calculate the direction and adjust it electronically. This technology is extremely expensive and too complicated for many users.

Wavefront

Large line arrays based on trapezoidal cabinets can be kinked/bent to project the narrow vertical sound field onto the listening area in a very practical way. This goal can be achieved very precisely, avoiding unintended room reflections of improving the quantity and quality of the sound. When linking the line arrays into a so-called coherent wavefront, interference is avoided and the range of the system is increased. So much for explaining the line array effect in general.

Discrete line array

The development of the LA-Stick 4x4 has made it possible to fit this technology into a column format, integrating many of the advantages of an actual line array into compact dimensions, making it much more user-friendly. Not a column speaker but a line array stick! Not only that, but as with large line-arrays, the LA-stick has a trapezoidal bottom and top with an 8° slope. The inclination angle can be adjusted externally via a newly developed, innovative adjustment mechanism based on a spindle with ball bearings. This very sturdy mechanism eliminates the need for hinges on the front of the loudspeaker. No moving parts are visible at the front. With this unobtrusive appearance, it is simple to integrate and use the loudspeaker in any tasteful interior.

Control

Using a special woodworking method, the sides of the cabinet have been given a tapered shape that emphasises its elegant appearance. With the LA-stick, any number of long rows can be assembled with only one type of loudspeaker, depending on the desired sound pressure. This makes the LA series the most flexible loudspeaker system in the column loudspeaker category in the world. The circuit with 16Ω output impedance makes it possible to use up to 8 LA-Sticks with one self-powered active base unit or up to 16 with one HDSP-6 power amplifier.

Waterproof

The industry-leading, lightweight 4-inch neodymium wideband drivers are waterproof. The LA stick can be used in clammy or humid environments, even for certain periods of time in the rain. Advanced accessories provide a variety of applications and installation options.
